George J. Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Philemon Allen, was born Febuary 2, 1865, at Brockport, N.Y. When he was a small boy, the family moved to Kansas where he grew to manhood. He was graduated from Ottowa University and shortly afterward the family moved to Marceline.

Walter Olin Hainds was born July 11, 1883 on a farm eight miles southeast of Marceline in Chariton County. He was the son of George Dewitt and Betty Hainds.
He attended Salisbury Academy and Chillicothe Business College.
After returning to Marceline he worked for several years for Fred Loeb in the Mercantile Store.
The first Post Office was established in Marceline in 1888 and was located on East California Street where the Gucker Coal Co. is presently located. The first Postmaster was Mr. Ed West. Marceline’s American Legion (Theodore Roosevelt Post #264) was organized in 1919 at a meeting held in the law office of Lon R. Owen located on the second floor of the Marceline State Bank building. Dr. Roy M. Cater was elected commander, W. S. Eichenlaub adjutant and Tracy Lancaster, treasurer.
The Chamber of Commerce was organized In 1888 by the City of Marceline. On September 6,1888, the Mayor appointed Drs. Perrin, Cater, Smith, N. Long, and J.E. Waller as a Board of Health for Marceline. J. Y. Turner was marshal at a salary of $30. W.M. Hindman received $17.75 for seventy-five paupers’ meals.
