In 1890 we were counted for the work Uncle Sam proposed to put on the press, entitled, “A Census of the United States,” and at that time our population was 1,922 souls. Recently a scheme to quietly take the census was sprung by Dr. J. H. Perrin and other progressive men, and J. T. Ruberson was employed for the work. He was painstaking and accurate, and his figures are submitted herewith:
- First ward:
- Males – 484
- Females – 399
- Second ward:
- Males – 714
- Females – 597
- Third ward:
- Males – 474
- Females – 382
- Floating population – 100
- Total – 3,150
- Number of males in the city, 1,672;
- Number of females in the city, 1,378
