Reve’ Mendenhall was born in 1929. Her parents were Ray and Marjorie (Cunningham) Mendenhall. They were originally from Bucklin and moved to Marceline in either late 1930’s or early 1940’s. In Marceline, they first lived on Walker Street and moved to a home on the corner of Hwy. 5 and Hayden Street in the early 1950’s. The St. Francis Hospital was practically in their backyard. Reve’ and her 3 siblings – Deoma, Duayne, and Mayota – all attended Marceline High School. Reve’ was an MHS cheerleader in her junior and senior years of 1946-47.
In the photos below, Reve’s daughter, Brenna Williams, shows her mother’s cheerleader sweater during her visit to Marceline on July 18, 2024.
Reve’ moved to Kansas City after she married Bernard Rooney in 1949. She had 2 sons and a daughter. Reve’ died in 2005.
Brenna tells us that Bernard Rooney had a 2nd cousin named John Walsh. John was a devout Catholic and owned the Walsh Lumber Company in Brookfield, and he donated the bells you see outside St. Francis Hospital.
